The Learning Wave believes that the key principles of adult learning are vital to achieving transformational change. There is a need to also recognise influences such as culture, situation and individual differences.

Here are the key philosophies behind The Learning Wave's approach:

Team buy-in

Adult learners need to know three important things if they are to switch on to a performance improvement initiative:

1. 'What am I going to be doing or learning?'
2. ‘Why am I doing this – from both a personal point of view and from my company's point of view?'
3. 'How will this performance improvement initiative work?'

We will discuss these questions with members of your team. We will also work with you to prepare an appropriate communication programme that supports the initiative. That way, participants will be primed and fired up to learn.

The learning solution

Adult motivation to learn is the sum of four factors:

1. Success – adults want to be successful learners
2. Volition – adults want to feel a sense of choice in their learning
3. Value – adults want to learn something they value
4. Enjoyment – adults want to experience the learning as pleasurable

The learning environment we create uses researched techniques to maximise adult learning. For a start, we will assign specialist Associates to work with participants. Your Learning Wave Associates will have been involved in the design of your programme, and will have personal contact with you and members of your team prior to delivery.
