April 2011
Employee engagement is fundamental. Yet, more and more employees are not happy at work.
We've seen data from a major engagement survey conducted last year in the UK showing only 27% of employees are 'actively engaged.' The remaining 73% is divided between 'ambivalent' (60 %) and 'actively disengaged' (13 %).
We would think that any organisation that has 73% of employees who are ambivalent or disengaged is an organisation that has limited life expectancy. This is a leadership problem, not a management one.
People's engagement with work is directly affected by their experience within their organisation. In other words, if you are the employee's leader - you are responsible for creating an engaging work climate.
What will you do next to make a difference to the level of employee engagement in your team?
