This month’s blog for People Like Us…was written by Matt – our resident technology, finance and strategy whizz! He shares with us his key takeaways and thoughts about the book Essentialism – The Disciplined Pursuit of Less.
1. The “pre-mortem.” Jump forward to your goal’s due date and imagine that you haven’t achieved it. What were the things that went wrong, and led to you not achieving that goal?
Chances are it wasn’t 30 things, but 1 or 2. By definition, all the other things are non-essential, as you will still be able to succeed without them.
2. MVP – (minimum viable progress) – when picking your next task to tackle, rather than picking based on the top email in your list, or the biggest most important task, consider starting with the smallest possible thing that would count as progress towards your essential goal. This can help ensure your pre-mortem above doesn’t become a reality.
